
Michael Smyth
Michael’s career spans more than twenty-five years in operations management, with a significant portion of that in the water and wastewater utility industry. He led a team of 450 employees serving 1.2M people as Vice President of Operations for Illinois American Water Company and most recently served as Chief Operating Officer for Infrastructure Services Group. Michael has held various positions in senior management, buoyed by a strong background in project/operations management in both the utility and construction industries. He has also been part of national teams spearheading ERP, project management and safety programs to support local operations teams.
Michael leads with a focus on efficient project execution, superior customer service and exceeding operational targets. While at American Water and Infrastructure Services Group, he led ERP enhancements and process development, driving business improvement through teamwork and communication. These enhancements included fieldwork and customer service orders, as well as production scheduling. He successfully implemented and refined the processes, allowing American Water’s 450 professionals to excel in customer satisfaction and production efficiency. Improved customer and stakeholder engagement through effective communication and improvements in customer education resulted in recognition as J.D. Power Associates’ Regional Business of the Year.
Among other responsibilities at CellSite, Michael will be automating work order, audit processes and project management activities to support growth and drive continuous improvement. When not at CellSite, he loves to spend time with his wife and two boys. They enjoy playing as much golf as possible and maximizing their time together through regular travel and celebrating the little successes in life. As a Chicago sports fan, Michael favors the White Sox over the Cubs, along with cheering for the Bears and Bulls.
